Jewellery Care
TARNISH & DIRT BUILDUP
While pure gold (24k) does not tarnish, most gold jewellery and gold-plate is an alloy of gold with other metals like silver and copper, and will tarnish through exposure to the natural oils in our skin, beauty and cosmetic products, moisture and chemicals such as chlorine. Tarnish is a surface issue and to restore shine and lustre we provide our customers with a complementary polishing cloth.
For a deeper clean you can use a solution of warm water with a little bicarbonate of soda and use a soft old toothbrush to get into the more intricate detail where dirt, moisturiser and life's potions can build up.
When you travel or aren't wearing your jewellery, use the box it came in to keep it safe - jewellery mostly gets lost when we take it off without stashing it away properly.
GOLD-PLATE
Gold-plate, even at the 3micron thickness that we use, will inevitably start to wear over time - particularly with everyday use, and you may find after several years that some silver starts to show through. To maximise the longevity of gold plate, take extra special care not to expose your jewellery to harsh chemicals, abrasion or moisture - always remove before showering, swimming, or exercising for example, and put it on after applying moisturiser.
See Returns, Repairs & Re-plating for info on our re-plating service when its time to breathe new life into your pieces.
STUD EARRINGS
If you feel your stud backs (scrolls or butterflies) are loosening and not holding the stud securely, they can be tightened by lightly biting the two sides together.
LOOKING AFTER OUR CARVED STONE PIECES
While stone is hard-wearing it is not shatter-proof and may chip or crack when dropped. To avoid calamitous results please store your carved stone jewellery in the fabric pouch provided when not being worn. For polishing and cleaning, treat as you would your metal jewellery, see above. Avoid immersing stone pieces in water and always ensure to dry thoroughly after any cleaning.
